Andrew Hacskaylo

Andrew Hacskaylo, age 92, of 222 Okeewemee Road, Star, died Saturday, February 6, 2010, at Randolph Hospital. Funeral will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 13, at Star United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Grissom and Raz Autry officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Hacskaylo was born on July 15, 1917 in Ernst, Pennsylvania. He grew up in Valley Grove, West Virginia. He attended West Liberty State College and was requested to work in instrument research and be a test pilot for NACA (National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics) in Langley Field, Virginia. Mr. Hacskaylo was the first full-time employee of the Hastings/Raydist Instrument Company in Hampton, Virginia. Since 1953, Mr. Hacskaylo has lived in Star and was the president and owner of Pine Hosiery Mills. He loved supporting his community and helped start the Star Christmas parade, the Star airport, and East Montgomery High School. He served on the East Montgomery High School Advisory Board for over twenty years; was one of the presidents of the Tin Whistles Golf Association in Pinehurst; and, was a member of the UNC Chapel Hill Educational Foundation Board of Governors. He was an avid golfer and a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Surviving are his wife, Ernestine Creech Hacskaylo of the home; son, Charles Hacskaylo of Asheboro; daughters, Judy Abernethy and Tina Pfeiffer both of Concord; brother, Ed Hacskaylo of Tucson, Arizona; Anna Hacskaylo of Valley Grove, West Virginia; grandchildren, Drew Hacskaylo, Jenny Sullivan, Jack Hacskaylo, Anna Douglas, Ellie Abernethy, Eddie Williams, and Patrick Williams; step-grandchildren, Deirdre Pfeiffer, Frederick Pfeiffer, and Miranda Pfeiffer; great-grandchildren, Doma Hacskaylo, Tashi Hacskaylo, Maggie Sullivan, and Emily Sullivan. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8:00 pm, Friday, February 12, at Phillips Funeral Home, 216 South Main Street, Star.
