Star - Barney Jackson "B. J." Maness, 79, of 1202 Maness Road, went to Heaven on Sunday, August 11, 2013, at FirstHealth Hospice House. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church, 445 Mt. Zion Church Road, Seagrove, with the Rev. Jerry Martin and Rev. Andrew Hurlburt officiating. Interment will be in Suggs Creek Primitive Baptist Cemetery. Mr. Maness was born in Montgomery County to Barna Edward and Sina Burroughs Maness. He was a retired supervisor at Clayson Knitting Co. Inc. and a life-long farmer. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Doug, Robert, Bill, and Joe Maness, and sister, Doris Maness. He is survived by his wife, Nona Ruth Kern Maness, of the home; son, Jeff Maness (Dianne), of Star, daughters, Melanie Dennison (Wyndham) of Ether, Mary Lou Rushing (Mark) of Clinton, Beverly King (Gene) of Asheboro, Clara Maness of Candor, Beth Savino of Rougemont, Pat Suggs (Mark) of Belmont; brother, Hugh Maness, of Greensboro; sister, Maxine M. Crews, of Greensboro; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM , Tuesday, August 13, 2013 , at Phillips Funeral Home, 216 South Main Street, Star and other times at the home.
