Brenda Fountain Gutschmit

Greensboro -- Brenda Fountain Gutschmit passed away Sunday, January 9 at the home of her special friend, Bob Hagey, in Greensboro, NC. She left us peacefully, surrounded by family. She was born Brenda Sue Fountain November 4, 1942 in Lumberton, NC, the daughter of the late Laurie Eugene Fountain and the late Isabel Hunt Fountain. Brenda was married 34 wonderful years to Alan Gutschmit, who predeceased her in 2001. Brenda is survived by her son Michael Gutschmit and wife Denise of Pinehurst, NC; daughter Kimberly Heilman and husband Gibb of Charlotte, NC; and daughter Laurie Trexler and husband Don of Pinehurst, NC. She was beloved by ten grandchildren: Madeleine, Lillian and Alan Gutschmit; Kase and Laney Diehl and Smith Heilman; and Sarah, William, Elizabeth, and Christina Trexler. She attended Peace College in Raleigh, NC. Brenda was active in her community, serving on the board of directors of The O'Neal School and FirstHealth of the Carolinas. Her giving spirit, sense of humor, and dedication to her family and loved ones will be greatly missed. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at Chandler's Grove United Methodist Church, 2510 Badin Lake Road, New London, NC. The family will receive visitors afterward at the Old North State Club at Uwharrie Point. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Alandale Endowment, c/o North Carolina Community Foundation, 4601 Six Forks Road, Suite 524, Raleigh NC 27609. The Alandale Endowment was founded by Alan and Brenda Gutschmit and supports childhood education in Montgomery County. --
