Carl Vester Owens

Biscoe - Carl Vester Owens, age 89, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2018, at Sandy Ridge Assisted Living in Candor.

Mr. Owens was born in Surry County on April 24, 1928 to Moses and Betty (Lawson) Owens. He was a retired carpenter and a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shellie Frances Taylor Strider.

He is survived by three daughters, Susan Lisenby (Wayne) of Troy, Sherri Sanders (Richard) of Troy, and Shannon McQuag of Summerfield, Florida; two sisters, Annie Strider and Marie Brown, both of Biscoe; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 13, 2018, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Phillips Funeral Home.

The funeral will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 14, at New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Gene Davis, Rev. Wayne Lisenby, and Rev. Matt Ross officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
