STAR - Clarence Ray Williams Sr., 82, of New Hope Church Road, died Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Friday, February 7, at New Hope Baptist Church, 153 New Hope Church Road, Star with the Reverends Gene Davis and Dr. Kenneth McNeil officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by Randolph Honor Guard and masonic rites.
Mr. Williams was an active member of the community where he was a member of numerous clubs and organizations. As a young man, Mr. Williams was an Eagle Scout. He later served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After that service, he earned a B.S. degree from High Point College, married Doris Albright, and began a career in banking with The Fidelity Bank where he retired after 40 years. An active member of New Hope Baptist Church, Mr. Williams served as deacon, superintendent, secretary and treasurer. He was a past master and treasurer of Masonic Lodge Biscoe # 437 A. F. & A. M. Mr. Williams also served on the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners from 1970-1990 where he was chairman.
Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Bonnie Williams; his wife of 52 years, Doris Williams; and daughter, Rhonda Williams Mitchum. He is survived by son, Clarence Ray Williams Jr. and wife, Vickie, of Concord; daughter, Robin Williams, of the home; and, granddaughters, Amy Mitchum, Brooke and Sierra Williams
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday, February 6, at Phillips Funeral Home, 216 South Main Street, Star.
