Rev. Curtis Blake, age 74, passed away July 13, 2009, in Garland, TX, after a long illness.
Born Sept. 13, 1934, he grew up in Biscoe and married Sue Stoker of Troy on Feb. 9, 1955. Curtis served nearly 21 years in the USAF, retiring in 1973 as a Master Sergeant. He then attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, graduating with a Diploma in Theology in 1975 and serving Southern Baptist congregations in Texas, Washington, and North Carolina until his retirement. He was a member of Biscoe's "Good ' ol Boys".
He is survived by his wife Sue; daughter Georgie Lancaster and husband J. E., Sachse, TX; daughter Cathy Brown and husband Clay, Mooresville, NC; granddaughters Taylor Brown, San Antonio, TX, and Lauren Lancaster, Dallas, TX; grandsons Blake Brown, Wilmington, and Collin Brown, Mooresville; sister Clara Williams, Biscoe; sister Viola Freeman, Asheboro; brother James and wife Lib, San Carlos, CA; sister Shirley Mae Jarrell and husband Odell, Asheboro; sister Betty Jean Kiser and husband Hubert, Lakeview; sister Louvene McBride, Danville, VA; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Terry, in 1968.
A service will be held on Fri., July 17, 2:00 p.m., at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 819 Mt. Carmel Rd., Troy NC 27371, with the Rev. Dr. Clay Brown and the Rev. Tom Vannoy officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Thurs., July 16, 3:00-5:00 p.m., at Phillips Funeral Home, 216 S Main St., Star, NC 27356.
