Troy - Elbert Jean Phillips, Sr., passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2012, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, March 12, 2012, at Southside Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. David Speering officiating with military honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
Mr. Phillips was born in Moore County to Charlie and Bertie Autry Phillips. He was a member of Troy Presbyterian Church, owned and operated Phillips Chain Saw in Troy for 36 years until his retirement, and was a WWII veteran of the US Marine Corps. He was predeceased by his son, E. J. Phillips, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Vanhoy Phillips, of the home; daughters, Dinah P. Welch and husband, David, of Snow Camp; Norma P. Underwood and Mike, of Troy; daughter-in-law, Sandra Phillips of Troy; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Sunday, March 11, 2012, at Phillips Funeral Home, 216 South Main Street, Star.
