Star - Ernestine Creech Hacskaylo, 91, formerly of 222 Okeewemee Road, died Monday, January 17, 2011, at Horizon Bay Assisted Living Center in Concord, NC.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, January 22, at Star United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kay Boone and Mary Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
She was a native of Mt. Olive, NC, attended East Carolina Teachers' College, and worked as a high school math and science teacher before being hired as a mathematician for flight testing at the National Advisory Committee on Aeronautics at Langley Field, VA. Following a move to Star, NC, Ernestine was part owner and officer of Pine Hosiery Mills, Inc.
Ernestine was a long time member of the Star United Methodist Church, the Eastern Star, and the Silver Foils Womens' Golf group in Pinehurst, NC. She served her community as a den mother for the boy scouts, a Sunday School teacher, an advisor for education in Montgomery County, and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. A golf scholarship is given annually in her name at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Ernestine enjoyed gardening, playing golf, reading, dancing, and spending time with family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Andrew Hacskaylo.
Surviving are her children, Charles Andrew Hacskaylo of Asheboro, and daughters, Julia Hacskaylo Abernethy, Tina Hacskaylo Pfeiffer, both of Concord; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends prior to the funeral from 10 AM to 11 AM on Saturday at Star United Methodist Church Fellowship Center.
