Biscoe - Etta Rea Britt Bailey, age 83, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2017, at her home.
Mrs. Bailey was born in Moore County on September 28, 1934 to James Elijah and Gladys Britt Britt. She was a 1952 graduate of Biscoe High School. She began her career at Carolina Power and Light. In 1962, East Montgomery welcomed its first classes of students and she was there to greet them as the first secretary of the school. She held that position for 28 years until her retirement.
She was selfless, gentle, patient, and kind and always saw the good in others. She was a person of strong faith and was a Christian example in every way. She loved God, her family, and her church. She loved to cook and was a master at baking pound cakes and persimmon puddings. She enjoyed crafting, gardening, and being with her family and grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
Mrs. Bailey was a life-long member of Flint Hill Christian Church. She loved to sing and led the church in songs for many years. She was secretary and treasurer for 28 years.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, James Fred Bailey, of the home; daughter, Priscilla Reynolds and husband, Chris, of Star; granddaughter, Lena Reynolds; grandson, Carson Reynolds; and sister, Frances Stewart, of Biscoe.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 24, 2017, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Phillips Funeral Home, 216 South Main Street, Star.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Flint Hill Christian Church with the Rev. Don McCaskill officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
