Biscoe- Harold Eugene “Gene” Anderson, 82, died at his home on Monday, July 12, 2021 in a tragic house fire. Gene established the Gunsmithing Program at Montgomery Community College in 1976 and taught for 23 years. Gene was a graduate and former instructor of the Pennsylvania Gunsmithing School. He was elected to the Town of Biscoe’s Board of Commissioners in 2005 and was appointed Mayor Pro-tem in 2019. He served honorably and was one of the most respected men in Montgomery County. He was active in the community and all town events. He was a member of the ABC Board and the MCC Retirees.
He served in the US Coast Guard. Gene was honored as a Lighthouse Keeper at the DeTour Reef Lighthouse in Michigan during weekend festivities by the DeTour Reef Lighthouse Preservation Society. The former Lighthouse Keepers were present and received recognition for their service during the Anniversary Celebration. Gene was a nationally recognized gun maker. His work is still recognized by former students, professionals, and collectors around the world. Gene was a modest man who never sought the spotlight but was loved and respected by everyone he met. Gene was the recipient of many awards through out his teaching and public service careers, including Instructor of the Year and Teacher of the Year. He was an active member of the Star United Methodist Church in Star, NC serving in multiple leadership capacities.
He is the son of the late David and Virginia Anderson of Leechburg, PA. He is survived by his wife, Mary and his children, Cathie Winffel and her husband Carlos of Gaithersburg, MD; Douglas Anderson of Silver Spring, MD; Lewis Perkins and his wife Dragana of Sunrise, FL; Brandy Odom of Biscoe, NC; Donald Perkins and his wife, Teri of Wadesboro, NC. Also his grandchildren Maximillian, Darren, and Abbigail Winffel; Amanda Shea; Kate McClain; Ruby Perkins; Ayla and Oliver Perkins. Also 11 Great Grandchildren including Gabriel, Daniel and Emily Luxton. One aunt, Lois Vogel and many cousins.
All former students and friends are invited to a Memorial Service at Star United Methodist at 2:00 pm on Sunday, July 18, 2021.
