Star - Guy Lamonds, known as "Pa Guy" to his girls, 80, of US Highway 220 Alt N, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2015, at Randolph Hospital with his loved ones by his side.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 7, 2015, at Star Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Grant Hoffman officiating. Interment will be in White Oak Springs Primitive Baptist Church with military honors provided by the US Navy and Randolph County Honor Guard.
Born October 20, 1934 in Troy, Mr. Lamonds was the son of the late Garland and Beulah Richardson Lemonds. He served his country in the US Navy from 1952 to 1956. After returning from the Navy, Mr. Lamonds met and married his bride of 57 years and moved to Star. He went into farming full-time while also working in the furniture industry at Aileen Furniture and Stuart Furniture. He and his wife started Lamonds Mobile Home Park in 1973 and he continued to farm until the early 1980s when he decided to open a furniture business of his own. He retired from everything in 1996 due to health reasons, and he and his wife caught the traveling bug. They started out taking short trips here and there, but in 2005 they traveled cross-country, all the way to California. As his family continued to grow, he purchased an RV and took all "his girls" on a maiden voyage in 2012. He never lost his love of farming as he recently introduced his family to the love of goats and cows. Even as his health started to decline, he always knew the love of "his girls" as they never left his side. Even his tiniest girl, Natalie, felt safe when she was in his arms, rocking her to sleep.
He attended Star Presbyterian Church and was a member of the American Legion.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and most recently a great-grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charlie Lemonds, and his infant grandson, Eddie Epps.
He is survived by his wife, Viola McBride Lamonds, of the home; daughters, Charlotte (Brian) Epps of Star; Marsha (Stevan) Stanisic of Durham; brothers, Oscar (Carol) Lemonds of Troy; Winfred Lemonds of Troy; Lonnie Lemonds of Troy; sister, Sudie (Allen) Stoker of Troy; granddaughters, Jessy (James Wayne) Brewer Richardson of Star; Macie Beth Epps of Star; and one great-granddaughter, Natalie Richardson of Star.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at Phillips Funeral Home, 216 South Main Street, Star.
Memorials may be made to Randolph County Honor Guard, PO Box 1672, Asheboro, NC 27204.
