Star - Harold Robert (Bobby) Russell, 86, died Thursday, May 23, 2013.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 25, at the Star United Methodist Church Cemetery at 4:00 PM. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.
Mr. Russell founded Montgomery Hosiery Mill, Inc. in Star in 1946. He operated the business for 54 years. He was a member of Star UMC and served in many capacities in the church over the years. He served 3 years in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific, stationed on the USS Lavaca. He witnessed the signing of the Peace Treaty in Tokyo Bay in Japan. He was a member of Biscoe Masonic Lodge # 437 A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite 32° for over 25 years. His hobby for many years was collecting and caring for exotic animals. He was a member of the National Exotic Bird and Waterfowl Society, and the International Waterfowl Society. He also belonged to the "Good Olde Boys" in Biscoe.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Merial Williams Russell.
He is survived by his three daughters, Karen Hunsucker and husband, Jerry, of Eustis, FL, Pam Brewer and husband, Keith, of Norwood; Lou Starnes of Concord; ; five grandsons, Jeremy Hunsucker of Wilmington, Adam Brewer and wife, Meghan, of Greensboro, Russell Brewer of Nashville, TN, Ethan Brewer of Norwood, Lathan Starnes of Concord; one granddaughter, Leah Starnes of Concord; one brother, Silas H. Russell, of Star.
