Pinehurst – Helen Cheek Mabe, 96, formerly of Star, passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2017.
Helen was born in Moore County on June 10, 1921 to the late Robert Franklin and Dora Howard Cheek. She grew up in Asheboro.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fetzer Berry Mabe, of Star. They operated Star Super Market in Star for 30 years together.
Helen also had seven brothers and one sister who preceded her in death, Claude, Frank, Colon, Carl, Waldo, Edgar, Graham, and Annie.
She was a member of Star First Baptist Church, where she loved to sing, help with Bible school, teach Sunday school, and was a member of Women’s WMU. Helen loved gardening and going to the beach. She was a member of the Halcyon Woman’s Club of Star and a member of the Star Museum.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Dale Fetzer Mabe and wife, Amanda; daughter, Betty Jo Styers and husband, Kim; two grandchildren, Josh Styers and wife, Ingrid and Melissa Styers; and two great-grandchildren, Grayson and Graham.
She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren very much and showed it in everything she did.
Our mother was blessed with a long healthy life for which we are all so thankful for and feel so blessed to have had her so long.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, September 28, at Star First Baptist Church with the Rev. Ralph Smith and Rev. Billy Roy officiating. Interment will follow in Leach Cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 – 10:45 am at the church.
