TROY - Hilton Jones Cochran, Sr., 83, of 508 Broughton Street, Troy, died Friday, January 24, at his residence. His funeral will be held 2:00 pm, Monday, January 27, at Troy Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Frank Dew officiating. Interment will be in Ether United Methodist Church Cemetery with military rites.
Mr. Cochran was born in Montgomery County to Homer Jones and Pearl N. Cochran. He was a graduate of Pfeiffer College and Appalachian University. Mr. Cochran served in the US Navy for four years. He joined his father in the Cochran Insurance Agency in 1956 and continued there until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of Troy Presbyterian Church and many community organizations and boards including the board of McRae Industries.
Mr. Cochran is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty Charles McLeod Cochran of the home; two sons, Rev. Hilton Jones Cochran, Jr. (Buck) and wife, Cathy, of Greensboro, Charles McLeod Cochran of Troy, and one daughter, Catherine Boswell and husband, Jack, of Richmond, Virginia; two grandchildren, Cameron Cochran of Charlotte and Hilton J. Cochran, III (Trey) of Greensboro; two sisters, Pattie Stuart and husband, Robert, of Burlington and Juanita Maness of Burlington.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 - 5:00 pm, Sunday, January 26, at Phillips Funeral Home, 216 South Main Street, Star.
