James "Jim" Callicutt

James "Jim" Callicutt, age 80, of Star, passed away on January 23, 2025, at FirstHealth Hospice House.

Jim was born on May 20, 1944, in Montgomery County to James and Stella Monroe Callicutt. Jim proudly served his country in the US Army. He worked for 34 years at the Montgomery Herald before retiring. Jim attended First Baptist Church in Star. He had a passion for music, particularly Bluegrass, and was known for playing with the Little River Bluegrass band.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Wilkes Callicutt of the home; sons Ray Deaton (Janet) of Star and John Deaton (Stephanie) of Star. Grandchildren Kayla (Will), Andrew, William, Raegan and Addyson, as well as great grandchild Nash.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Phillips Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 pm.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 27, 2025, at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Star with Rev. Ralph Smith and Rev. Jimmy Shirlen officiating. Burial will follow at Leach Cemetery in Star.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Jim's memory to the First Baptist Church of Star, PO Box 358, Star, NC 27356 or the charity of one's choice.
