Star - James Phillip "Phil" Carter, Sr., age 69, passed away Saturday, April 3, 2021, at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst.
Phil was born in Cumberland County on December 24, 1951 to Charles Watson Carter, Sr. and Evelyn Brisson Carter. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church; a veteran of the US Army, where he served during the Vietnam War; a member of the American Legion, US Army Reserves and National Guard; a Boy Scout leader for several years; and was an EMT paramedic with FirstHealth of the Carolinas for 30 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Carter and Garry Carter and sisters, Ramona Sorenson and Patricia Anderson.
He is survived by his wife, Pattie Lamonds Carter, of the home; daughter, Aimee Carter Compton (Garry) of Yulee, Florida; son, Jamie Carter of Star; sister, Cindy Carter Hussey (Jimmy) of Robbins; brother, Charles W. Carter, Jr. of Randleman; and four grandchildren, Catherine, Robert, Ethan, and Grace.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 8, at Southside Baptist Church with the Rev. Jamie Sink officiating. Interment will follow in Biscoe Cemetery with military honors provided by North Carolina National Guard. Due to COVID restrictions, please wear a face mask and practice social distancing at these services.
