Joann Maness Bennett

Joann Maness Bennett, age 88, of Star, passed away on November 25, 2023, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.

Joann was born on July 15, 1935, in Montgomery County to John and Mamie Lassiter Maness. She dedicated 30 years of her life as a nurse at Montgomery Memorial Hospital and at Clapps Nursing Home. Joann's faith led her to become an active member of Good Samaritan Baptist Church for many years, where she  taught the children's Sunday School class for 18 years. Eventually, she moved her membership to Southside Baptist Church. She loved the Lord and her family unconditionally.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dwight Bennett, daughter Kathy Bennett Brown, sons Phillip Bennett and Duane Bennett, sisters Eula Mae Stevens, and Betty Patterson; as well as her brother Elwood Maness.

Joann is survived by her daughter Donna Bennett of Star; along with her grandchildren William Bennett of Randleman; Daniel Bennett of Rockingham; Hannah Parrish of Randleman; Rebecca Parrish of Randleman; and Heather Murphy of Sanford. She also leaves behind great-grandchildren Owen Bennett, Jayla Bennett, Perry Bennett, and Benjamin Parrish who brought joy to her life.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 27, 2023, from 5:00-7:00 pm at Phillips Funeral Home.

A graveside service will take place on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at Marcus United Methodist Church Cemetery at 2:00 pm. The service will be officiated by Pastor Jamie Sink.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Baptist Church at 844 Powhatan Ave., Asheboro, NC 27203.
