John Wayne Mashburn

Star - John Wayne Mashburn, 77, of Mashburn Drive, died Sunday, December 28, 2014, at his home. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 1, 2015, at Star United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Kay Boone officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Mashburn was born in Montgomery County to James Harvey and Floma Covington Mashburn. He was a retired veteran of the United States Army. After his retirement from the military, he was a special education teacher in Montgomery County and Stanly County Schools. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers, Melba Stewart, Marilyn Usher, J. R. Mashburn, Paul Mashburn, and Harvey G. Mashburn. He is survived by his sisters, Pat Mashburn of Troy, Carol Deaton of Charlottesville, VA, Gayle Davis of Biscoe; brothers, M. Laine Mashburn of Ether, Richard Mashburn of Franklin, VA. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 PM - 1:45 PM, Thursday, January 1, 2015, at Star United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Star United Methodist Church, PO Box 375, Star, NC 27356.
