Lena Owens Mabe

Lena Owens Mabe, 86, formerly of Star, died Thursday, July 1, 2010, at FirstHealth Moore Regional. She was a resident of Pinelake Health & Rehab in Carthage. Funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM, Saturday, July 3, 2010, at New Hope Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Gene Davis officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. She was a native of Stokes County and was retired from Russell's Hosiery Mill. She found joy in cooking for her family, gardening, and her church. She was predeceased by her husband, Ercil Mabe and son, Gregory. Surviving are her daughters, Brenda Dougherty and husband, Tom, of Lacy, WA, Joyce Matherly and husband Tommy, of Troy, Janice Tillman and husband, Johnny, of Carthage, Lisa M. Greenwell and husband Curtis, of Troy; brother, Carl Owens of Biscoe; sisters, Annie Mae Strider of Biscoe, Marie Brown of Robbins; grandchildren, Tommy Dougherty, Jr., John Dougherty, Christy Drennan, Brooke Greenwell; great-grandchildren, Keara Dougherty, Catlin Dougherty, Bridget Dougherty, Kegan Dougherty, and Tillman Drennan. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM, Saturday, July 3, 2010, at New Hope Baptist Church.
