Biscoe - Maxine McDuffie McLean, age 100, entered Heaven's Gates on Thursday, September 12, 2019, following a brief illness.
Maxine was born to Henry B. and Nettie Lewis McDuffie on August 16, 1919, as a twin to Pauline M. Jackson. She achieved her goal last month by reaching her 100th birthday.
She was viewed by many as a very virtuous woman always caring for family and her grandchildren. She has served in various capacities at Big Oak Christian Church most of her life. She was married to John F. McLean for 53 years.
She was employed by Biscoe Cotton Mill early in life and retired from Russell Hosiery Mill in Star in the early 70's.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, and three sisters.
Surviving are one son, Michael E. McLean (Toni); one daughter, Janice Thompson Janey (Larry), with whom she lived the last 3 ½ years. She also leaves behind five grandchildren and spouses, as well as ten great-grandchildren; and sister, Mozelle Smith.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Saturday, September 14, at Phillips Funeral Home and other times at 1187 Samarcand Road, Biscoe.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 15, at Big Oak Christian Church with Dr. Larry Tyler and the Rev. Jennings O'Neill officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
