Oliver "Max" Dunlap, 82, passed away on May 24, 2013 at FirstHealth Moore Regional. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, May 27, at Bascom Chapel United Methodist Church where his body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Officiating will be the Rev. Kjersti DeVries Lockhart. Burial will be in the church cemetery with masonic rites. Military rites will be conducted by Randolph County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall after the service.
Mr. Dunlap was born on August 24, 1930 to Daniel A. and Nora Belle Dunlap who preceded him in death. He was a farmer and lifelong resident of Dan Road, Robbins. As an outdoorsman, he loved to hunt, ride his four-wheeler, and work with his John Deere tractor. He was retired from Luck's Inc. and had raised poultry for Townsend Farms. Mr. Dunlap was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving in the Korean Conflict; a member of the Masonic Lodge #437 A. F. & A. M. Scottish Rite 32 Degree; and, a member of Bascom Chapel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his beloved wife of fifty-nine years, Ruth Kidd Dunlap, of the home; son, James E. Dunlap and wife, Lisa, of Robbins; daughters, Gale Dunlap Wood, and husband, Red, of Carthage and Ellen Dunlap Linton and husband, Chris, of Charlotte; sister, Lynnie Kate Comer of Seagrove; brother, Daniel C. Dunlap of Carthage; and, eight grandchildren.
At other times, the family will receive friends at the home, 932 Dan Road, Robbins, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bascom Chapel United Methodist Church, C/O Shirley Brewer, 2334 Dover Road, Seagrove, NC 27341.
