Oscar Herbert Massey

Star - Oscar Herbert Massey, 93, died Thursday, February 18, 2016, at Baaseiah Family Care Home in Candor.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, February 21, 2016, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Neal Parsons and Joyce Parsons officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 pm - 1:45 pm.

Mr. Massey was a native of Raleigh, born to Wiley Herbert and Lula Jane Stallings Massey on July 18, 1922.

He and his wife, Mary Grace Owenby Massey, moved to Star in the early 1950's.

He worked for Norfolk Southern Railroad and retired after 44 years of employment. He also was a photographer for 25 years, in which he and his wife enjoyed doing together.

He served in the US Army and was a WWII veteran. He was an active member of VFW Post 9881, where he had served as president, Star Baptist Church choir, and Star Fiddlers Convention. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.

In addition to his parents and four sisters, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Grace Massey; son, Thomas Edward Massey; and a grandson, Clinton Massey.

Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Cagle and husband, Carl, of Florence, SC, Hester Marie Brewer and husband, Joe, of Star; three sons, Donald Herbert Massey and wife, Jean, of Garner, Mike Massey of Randleman, and Oscar Raymond Massey and wife, Stacy, of Star. He was the proud grandfather of 15, great-grandfather of 23, and great-great-grandfather of 4.

The family would like to express sincere gratitude to the staff of Baaseiah Family Care Home for the love and exceptional care they provided to Mr. Massey.
