Remell Dunn Maness

Remell Dunn Maness, age 91, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2024.

Remell was born on March 7, 1933, in Montgomery County to Willie and Fannie Williams Dunn.

She was raised in Star, North Carolina, graduated from the local high school and worked as a secretary at Russell Hosiery Mill. She married Bill Maness in 1955. They were long time residents of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina and raised four sons. She was a wonderful cook, seamstress and host for family dinners. She loved returning to Star to buy material and sew with her sisters. She was a longtime member of Rosemary United Methodist Church and active in the women’s circle.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William Taft Maness and sisters Valeria Greene and Billie Dunn.

She is survived by her sons, Buddy and Lyn Maness of Roanoke Rapids, Tony and Debbie Maness of Apex, Chuck and Molly Maness of Sanford, and Jeff and Mary Maness of Raleigh. Nieces, Bobbie Smith and Sandy McIntyre. Grandchildren Trey Maness, Kelly Baker, Dr. Sarah Maness, Addison Maness, Anna Brooks Reed, Taft Maness, Cole Maness, Will Maness and Samantha Maness and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 23, 2024, at New Hope Baptist Church at 11:00 am with Rev. Gene Davis officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00-10:45 am. Burial will be at 2:00 pm at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in Robbins.

In lieu of flowers, monetary donations can be made in Remell's honor to Transitions Life Care, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
