Seagrove - Rev. Clyde Ellis Comer, Jr., age 75, passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at FirstHealth Moore Regional in Pinehurst.
Rev. Comer was born in Moore County on August 16, 1945 to Clyde Ellis Comer, Sr. and Lynnie Kate Dunlap Comer. He was a US Army veteran, where he served during the Vietnam Conflict, a Baptist minister, and a retired barber. He was a lifetime member and chaplain of the Asheboro DAV, Chapter #38.
During his time in service he earned a Purple Heart, two Army Commendation Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, three Vietnam Campaign Medals, the Vietnam Service Medal, a Combat Infantryman Badge, an expert Rifle Badge, and an Expert Marksman Badge.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Maybelle Cagle.
He is survived by his wife, Chyerl Auman Comer, of the home; children, Clyde Ellis Comer III and wife, Jennifer, of Spartanburg, SC, Audra Comer Loftin and husband, Christopher, of Athens, AL, and Matthew Comer and wife, Michaelia, of Asheboro; sisters, Rosalie Booker and husband, Layton, of Candor and Lavonne Ritter and husband, Marshall, of Seagrove; grandchildren, Katelynn, Claudia, Clyde Ellis IV, Maison, Madison, and Marigold; and several nieces and nephews.
Clyde's body will lie in repose from 12:00 – 5:00 p.m., Saturday, December 5, and from 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Sunday, December 6, at Phillips Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 6, at Dover Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Allen Mashburn and Rev. Clyde Ellis Comer III officiating. Military honors will be provided by the US Army Honor Guard.
