Robert Lee Greene

Robert Lee "Bobby" Greene, age 72, of Star, died Friday, September 25, 2009 at his home. A native of Montgomery County, Bobby was born on December 11, 1936, the son of the late Val and Agnes Greene. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Mary Hester Greene Lively. Survivors include his wife, Jane McAlister Greene, of the home; daughters, Sandra Greene Holleman and husband, Doug, of Durham, Beth Greene and husband, Bob Nussear, of Raleigh, Susan Greene Maness and husband, Robin, of Summerfield, and Patty Greene Faulkner and husband, Keith, of Buies Creek; grandchildren, Megan Maness, Will Maness, Hannah Faulkner, and Erin Faulkner. Bobby graduated from Star High School. He attended NC State University and East Carolina University where he received his degree in Physical Education. He then served in the National Guard. Bobby farmed, taught eighth grade and coached basketball and baseball. He was a member of Dover Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school for many years. An advocate for education, Bobby served on the Star School Advisory Committee, Montgomery County Board of Education, and the Agricultural Stabilization Committee of Montgomery County. Bobby was an avid antique car collector and received several awards at car shows on both local and national levels. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, and spending time with friends and family. He valued honesty, work ethic, and strength of character. Those close to him appreciated his wit and sense of humor. He was a wonderful husband, Daddy, PaPaw, and friend. He will be missed. The family will receive friends Sunday, September 27, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm, at Phillips Funeral Home, Star. It was Bobby's request that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Dover Baptist Church, 2527 Dover Road, Seagrove, NC 27341 and Hospice of Randolph Co., PO Box 9, Asheboro, NC 27204.
