Seagrove - Ronald Ervin Thompson, age 72, known to his family and friends as "Ronnie", passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, March 24, 2020, at his home after receiving an unexpected diagnosis of cancer on March 6. Ronnie was born in Moore County on May 6, 1947 to Edmond Ervin and Nora Rachel Vanhoy Thompson. He was a 1966 graduate of East Montgomery High School, a veteran of the US Marine Corps serving during the Vietnam War and was a Purple Heart recipient. He started his employment with Central Telephone Company in 1970 and retired in 2010 from CenturyLink. He was a member of Candor Lions Club, a mason at Biscoe Masonic Lodge #437 AF & AM, and enjoyed attending Westmoore Senior Center. He was a diehard sports fan, especially for NC State. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his in-laws, Harold and Nellie Freeman Bean and brothers-in-law, Ron Gagliardi, Roger and Laney Bean. He loved his Lord and Savior, his family, his special grandchildren, and his dog, Coal. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sharon Bean Thompson, of the home; daughter, Sonya T. Crissman and husband, Jay, of Seagrove; son, Alan Thompson and wife, Erica, of Seagrove;, mother, Nora Vanhoy Thompson, of Eagle Springs; sisters, Rachel T. Gagliardi and Rhonda T. Chappell and husband, Ken, all of Eagle Springs; grandchildren, Athan, Bradon, and Caibrey Thompson and Hannah Crissman; nieces and nephews, Jay Auman, Glenn and Blair Auman, Margaret and Justin Gilliland, and Evan Chappell; great-niece, Nora Grace Auman and great-nephew, J.J. Auman. The family would especially like to thank Dr. Samuel Woods (VA), Hospice of Randolph and their special angels, Stephanie, Lannette, Meagan, Marcie, Kim, Andrea, Amanda, and Tim as well as all family and friends who have called, brought food, and prayed for us. Our hearts have been blessed by your love and kindness. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, the family is requesting that you visit our website to make your condolences or by visiting the funeral home where Ronnie will lie in state on Thursday, March 26, from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. The graveside service will be by invitation only. The family will have a celebration of his life after this crisis is over. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to Westmoore Senior Center, 2332 Westmoore Center, Robbins, NC 27325, Hospice of Randolph, PO Box 9, Asheboro, NC 27204, or Center Cross Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 1789 Center Cross Church Road, Asheboro, NC 27205.
