Stephen Ray Thomas, 69, of Eagle Springs, passed away Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018, at Duke University Medical Center, in Durham.
Mr. Thomas was born in Richmond County on May 29, 1948, to Alfred Ray and Gladys Ruth (Williams) Thomas. He was a veteran of the U.S .Army, where he served during the Vietnam War. He was a retired supervisor/fixer at Ithaca.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his son Christopher Paul Thomas.
He is survived by his wife, Roxanne Williams Thomas, of the home; one daughter, Steffanie Walter (Brian), of Aberdeen; two sons, Jeffrey Scott Thomas (Susan) and Matthew J. Thomas, all of Eagle Springs; father, Alfred Ray Thomas, of Carthage; two sisters, Lois McCorquodale of Hope Mills and Mary Thomas of Carthage; one brother, James Thomas, of West End; daughter-in-law, Cristie Thomas, of Carthage; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren
The family will receive friends Saturday, Feb. 17, from 6–8 p.m., at Phillips Funeral Home, in Star.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, at Union Grove Baptist Church, with Rev. Dr. Ron Chaney officiating. Interment will follow in Williams Family Cemetery, 128 Williams Drive, Eagle Springs.
