On Tuesday, April 16th, 2019, Sundee Katherine Maher Williams, 45, gained her angel wings surrounded by her family and dearest friends.
Sundee is survived by her loving husband and soul mate, Chris B. Williams of Seven Lakes; parents Bill and Beth Maher of Charlotte; brother, Hunter, his wife Kristin and nephews, Layne and Chase, also of Charlotte; God Children Sawyer and Lily Blake of Pinehurst; and fur babies Snuggles and Serena.
Sundee was born August 29, 1973 in Bartlesville, OK and graduated high school from The O’Neal School before continuing her education at Warren Wilson College in the North Carolina mountains. She earned her Master of Arts Degree in History from North Carolina State University, beginning her lifelong love of Wolfpack sports. Sundee and Chris were avid Wolfpack fans… unless they were playing Duke in basketball – then Sundee was true blue!
Sundee career revolved around the Pharmaceutical and Crop Science industry in RTP. The pinnacle of her career was for the past seven years at Bayer Crop Science in RTP where she was loved and admired by all who came in contact with her. This job provided her with enriching professional opportunities and she was blessed to live in Germany for three months. None could touch her level of dedication to her work and her desire for quality and performance.
Sundee was a believer in God and we were part of many loving congregations through our lives. She grew up in Candor United Methodist, we married at and worshipped at Bensalem Presbyterian Church until we moved to Raleigh; we found a true home in Raleigh at Trinity Presbyterian Church; and Christ Community Church in West End was our most recent community of Worship. Sundee’s spirit helped us form so many wonderful relationships at each of our church homes, and so many people from each home are supporting us now as we mourn and celebrate Sundee’s life.
Sundee embodied a service minded spirit. She cared so much for those around her in her time on earth. She ministered to so many through service organizations like Habitat for Humanity, The Food Bank, and Care Ministries through the Church. Sundee was one that truly involved herself in people’s lives and had her own personal card writing ministry to people around her that needed a word of encouragement and support.
She will forever be remembered for her vibrant and adventurous personality. Always curious and eager to learn about new places and cultures, Sundee and I made adventures all over the world. We covered many miles in our RV, cheered at many N.C. State and Duke games, attended symphonies and concerts, and found the best eats on the way! Sundee made our house a home that was always open to friends and neighbors, hosting gatherings throughout the year for events large and small. Everyone was always welcome!
A memorial service will be Thursday, April 18th at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Community Church on 220 Campground Road, West End. Friends and family are invited to an Irish wake at the home Thursday night to share tears & laughter celebrating the joy of life that she brought the world! A graveside service will be Saturday, April 20th at 10:00 a.m.at Bensalem Evangelical Presbyterian Church at 2891 Bensalem Church Road, Eagle Springs, and a reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall hosted by the Women of the Church.
Words will never fully express the sorrow of losing Sundee, but these are three that best describes my feeling- I’m Devastated at how quickly cancer claimed Sundee’s life, Heartbroken at losing the love of my life, and Relieved that her suffering is over. The love of our family, friends and neighbors truly shows how God uses us to physically express his love.
May God bless Sundee and wrap his arms around her in love as he welcomes her home!
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to FirstHealth Hospice Foundation, 150 Applecross Road, Pinehurst, NC 28374.
