Star - Thelma Maie Freeman Gadd, age 90, passed away Monday, May 11, 2020, at Cross Road Retirement Community in Asheboro. Thelma was born in Star on May 21, 1929 to James Ralph and Cora Ethel Atkins Freeman. She was retired from the Clipping Department at Clayson Knitting Co. Inc. She was a member of Calvary Temple in Biscoe. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Gadd, and siblings, Leo Ralph, Artie Bernice, Paul Wade, Cora Ruth, Delmer Ray, and Ruby Evelyn. She is survived by her nephew and his wife, Harold and Elaine Freeman, who were also her caregivers, and other nieces and nephews. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, her body will lie in state from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 13, and from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Thursday, May 14, at Phillips Funeral Home. Private graveside services will be held with the Rev. Tommy Kidd officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Temple, c/o Evelyn Hill, 438 Belford Church Road, Candor, NC 27229 or Hospice of Randolph, PO Box 9, Asheboro, NC 27204. Online condolences may be left at www.phillipsfh.com. The Gadd family is being served by Phillips Funeral Home in Star.
