Verna Joyce Douglas

Star - Verna Jane Davis Joyce Douglas, 91, died Sunday, March 10, 2013, at Randolph Health & Rehabilitarion Center. Funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM, Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Star House of Praise with the Rev. Jimmy Shirlen officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Douglas was born in Montgomery County on July 5, 1921, to Joe and Ida Williams Davis. She was retired from Russells Hosiery Mill where she worked for 35 years. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Tommy Joyce, Odell Douglas; brothers, Arthur, James, Elsie, Tracy, Floyd, Jesse; sister, Mildred Clardy. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law. She will truly be missed. Surviving are her daughters, Jane Latham of Seagrove, Rachael Hancock and husband, Thurman, of Seagrove; sons, Jerry R. Joyce and wife, Cathy, of Archdale, David E. Joyce of Asheboro; brother, Ervin Davis, of Asheboro; 7 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Phillips Funeral Home, 216 South Main Street, Star.
