William Samuel "Sammy" Jackson, 60, died unexpectedly on Friday, February 20, 2015, at his home in Biscoe.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm, Monday, February 23, at the West Montgomery High School Auditorium with Rev. Mike Greene officiating followed by Masonic rites.
Born on September 18, 1954 to Floyd and Flora Mae Lewis Jackson, he was a member of Main Street Baptist Church in Biscoe and a member of Biscoe Masonic Lodge #437 AF & AM. He was a 1972 graduate of East Montgomery High School. Sammy had been a correctional officer at Southern Correctional Institution where he retired in 2006 after twenty-two years. He was currently the owner and operator of Mid-State Outfitters and lead instructor for NCDPS Consortium Program at Montgomery Community College. He loved the sport of baseball, and he poured his heart onto the field coaching at both East and West Montgomery High Schools. One of his proudest moments came when he led his Warriors to win the 2013 Conference Championship. Sammy was a vivid storyteller with the ability to bring a smile to almost any face. He had an outgoing personality and a compassion for helping others. He loved his grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Jackson is survived by his wife of thirty-seven years, Dawn Dennis Jackson, of the home; son, Sam Jackson, of Los Angeles, CA; daughter, Dana Jackson, of Biscoe; brother, Richard Jackson, of Biscoe; and, grandchildren, Clara, Paul, and Josie.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the baseball program at either East Montgomery High School, 157 Eagle Lane, Biscoe, NC 27209 or West Montgomery High School, 147 Warrior Drive, Mt. Gilead, NC 27306.
