Midland - Zell Garry Robinson, 85, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 20, 2021.
Born September 10, 1935, Garry grew up on a farm in Montgomery County near Candor. He graduated from Candor High School and served 3 years in the Army, stationed at Fort Bragg. His love for and skill at tinkering on anything with a motor led him to work first as a talented auto mechanic, but he is more widely known for his long career as a Vulcan tool salesman, serving routes throughout the Charlotte area.
On December 24,1956, he married his beloved Faye Joyce Auman. For 64 years they shared a love of family, road trips, and small-town festivals. An avid collector of Case tractors, Garry restored them to their former glory and proudly paraded them at regional shows, with Faye always by his side. He enjoyed his fishing pond and sharing his abundant crop of okra, tomatoes and interesting peppers with family and friends. He always knew the perfect cool gift for his nieces and nephews who will forever know him as “Unk”. He was a “real character” and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Garry was a longtime member and deacon of Pleasant Hill Primitive Baptist Church outside Asheboro, where he will be laid to rest in a graveside service Wednesday, February 24, at 2:00 p.m. with Elder David Lee Brooks officiating.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lacy Mason and Mayezella Poole Robinson. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Cara Hammonds, and by 3 half-brothers and 1 half-sister and their spouses.
He is survived by his wife, Faye Auman Robinson; brother, Otho Robinson and sister, Belle Covington, both of Candor; and many nephews and nieces.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to Novant Hospice, 324 North McDowell Street Suite 200, Charlotte, NC 28204 or Cabarrus Meals on Wheels, 342 Penny Lane NE, Concord, NC 28025.
