Obituary of Wallace Smith, Sr.

 

Seagrove - Wallace Jackson Smith, Sr., age 81, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family.

Mr. Smith was born on December 7, 1936 in Wake County to Clyde Smith and Minnie Rogers Smith Hester.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He served in the US Army for two years stationed in Germany. He was employed by Ideal Fastener in Oxford, NC for 32 years as a technical representative. He enjoyed working on his farm raising cattle and chickens. His favorite hobby was enjoying the outdoors on his golf cart with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his special dog, "Tinker".

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Edna Albright Smith; two daughters, Janice Smith Cranford and husband, Robert, of New Bern, and Sandra Smith Lowe and husband, John, of Asheboro; two sons, Wallace J. Smith, Jr. and wife, Sandy, of Asheboro, and Jackie C. Smith and wife, Wanda, of Seagrove; grandchildren, Shane Cranford, Angela Cranford Shaffer, Megan Smith Speedling, Lance Lowe, Clayton Smith, Natalie Smith, and Sarah Smith; great-grandchildren, Taylor Shaffer, Nathan Lowe, Gavin Speedling, Lucas Shaffer, Ivy Grey Cranford, Jackson Lowe, and Emma Lowe; and a very special cousin, Andrew Oakly and wife, Peggy.

The family will receive friends Saturday, May 5, 2018, from 1:00 - 1:45 PM at New Center Christian Church, 6448 New Center Church Road, Seagrove and other times at the home.

The funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Dr. Jonathan Burris and Rev. Dr. Kenneth McNeill officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard.

The family would like to extend a very special thanks to the staff of Hospice of Randolph and to Randolph Home Health nurse, Erica King.
