Obituary of Ronald "Ronnie" Gaston Cagle, Jr.

Ronald “Ronnie” Gaston Cagle, Jr., age 39, passed away peacefully Monday, July 8, 2019, at his parent's home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous 15-month fight with colon cancer.

Ronnie was born in Wake County at Rex Hospital on November 5, 1979, to Ronald Gaston Cagle, Sr. and Glenda Kay Kennedy Cagle.  He was a graduate of East Montgomery High School and attended Catawba Valley Community College and Randolph Community College.

During his career he worked for ST Motorsports in Locust, NC working on the #59 Kingsford Charcoal car as a fabricator and paint and body man.  He also traveled with the race team and even went “over the wall” to change tires.  Later in his career he built and opened a successful paint and body shop, “DC Customs” for 6 years before trying his hand at teaching welding and automotive paint and body at both Montgomery Community College and Randolph Community College before settling into a job as a Fleet Maintenance Mechanic at First Health of the Carolinas working on remounting ambulances and any other “odd job” they could come up for him.

He was a member of Star First Baptist Church and an active go-kart racer.  You could often see him on a Saturday evening at any number of dirt go-kart tracks between Virginia and South Carolina.  He always had a smile on his face, never met a stranger and was the very best storyteller.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Floyd “Pop” and Ruth Kennedy and Chason and Erna Cagle.

He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Elizabeth Cagle, of the home; parents, Ron Sr. and Glenda Cagle, of Star; sister, Renee Duren and husband, Michael, of Dawsonville, GA; nephew, Luke Duren; in-laws Donald and Patricia Gould of Scarborough, ME; brother-in-law, Matthew Gould of Limerick, ME, and beloved dog and companion, Minnie “Boo Boo”.

The family will receive friends Thursday, July 11, from 6 - 8 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home in Star.

The funeral service will be held Friday, July 12, at 11:00 a.m. at Star First Baptist Church, 126 East Street, Star, with the Rev. Ralph Smith officiating.  Interment will be at White Oak Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Star.

The family would like to send their sincere appreciation to the staff of FirstHealth Hospice and Palliative Care for their excellent care and compassion, especially to his home nurse, Selena White.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, 1025 Vermont Ave NW; Suite 1066 Washington, DC 20005 https://www.ccalliance.org/donate or PALTOWN Development Foundation https://paltown.org/.
