Marie Hefner Deaton-Negus

Biscoe - Marie Deaton-Negus, age 80, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, September 28, 2019.

Marie was the daughter of the late Gaither and Thelma Walker Hefner of Hickory, NC. She is also preceded in death by her husbands, Walter F. Deaton and John H. Negus.

She was a retired teacher of Montgomery County Schools and retired from the Montgomery County Service Veterans Office. She served as past President of VFWA and was lay leader of Star United Methodist Church, Star, where she was a member for many years.

She is survived by her son, Joseph Deaton and wife, Yvonne of Randleman; two step-daughters, Hazel Saunders and husband, Van, of Troy and Kathy Fields and husband, Jody, of Mt. Gilead; one step-son, Joseph Negus of Mt. Gilead; four sisters, Doris Shuford and husband, Doug, of Carolina Shore, Jean Costner and husband, Clifford, of Hilderbrand, Audrey Sigmon of Holden Beach, and Janet McDaniels and husband, Jeff, of Conover; five brothers, Mark Hefner and wife, Belinda, of Hickory, Gary Hefner and wife, Barbara, of Newton, Dewey Hefner of Catawba, Bob Hefner and wife, Rosa Linda, of Conover, and Richard Hefner and wife, Rheta, of Hickory; 24 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Monday, September 30, at Star United Methodist Church with Pastor Kay Boone officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
