Obituary of Edna Ruth Hayes

Edna Ruth Ward Hayes, age 96, formerly of Asheboro, died Friday, January 15, 2021 at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home, Asheboro. Mrs. Hayes was born November 6, 1924 the daughter of Wesley Eli and Lona Glascow Ward. Ruth was a raised in Asheboro, later graduating from Providence School in Randleman. She was a devoted wife and served as her husband Dink's "bookkeeper" for many years in his business, Randleman Gulf, and later Randleman BP. She was also a homemaker. She was an active member of New Salem United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, was involved in the Methodist Women, and enjoyed being a part of the "Fun Bunch." She and her husband Dink loved bluegrass music and often attended the performances at Eleazer. Ruth is preceded in death by her husband: Dink Hayes. She is survived by one daughter: Debra Durham of Randleman, NC, granddaughter: Michele (Burt) Blakely of Archdale, NC; grandson: Chris (Lisa) Durham of Randleman, NC; great-grandchildren: Isaac and Lukas Blakely and Kaleb Durham. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Clapp's Nursing home, especially Luann Cagle, for the great care they gave to Ruth. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 22, 2021 from 11:00-11:45 AM at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman. The funeral service will follow at Noon in the Chapel with Rev. Johnny Lord officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to New Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 623 New Salem Rd., Randleman, NC
