Dwight Erwin Saunders

d. November 23, 2021

Dwight Erwin Saunders, 74, died peacefully in his sleep November 22, 2021 in Clinton, NC.  Son of the late Sterling Price Saunders and Ora Melton Saunders of Biscoe, NC.  He was the husband of Beverly Williamson Saunders of Clinton, NC and Lake Tillery, NC.

Dwight graduated from East Montgomery High School in Biscoe (1965), and after two active tours in Vietnam as a Navy SeaBee (MCB 74) he came home to NC and attended NC State University.

After moving to Clinton, NC and going to work with his father-in-law at Williamson Motors, he became an active participant in the community as a member of the Clinton Jaycees, serving both as a local President and a State Vice President.  Dwight was also a proud member of the Sampson County Expo Committee and the Clinton Area Foundation for Education.  He was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine through his service to his community and state and met many lifelong friends in the process.

He enjoyed flying, kayaking, NC State Football, regular lunches with his Expo Committee friends, and spoiling any nearby dog.

He was predeceased by his parents and parents-in-law, a brother Phillip Saunders, and nephews Sterling Saunders and Paul Saunders.

Dwight is survived by his wife Beverly and son Dwayne Ellis Saunders (Allison) of Cary, NC, a brother Nolan Saunders (Ann) nieces Angela Parrish (Ronnie), Sylvia Reader and Laura Saunders, Aunt Joanne King of Seagrove, NC, and Lexie his loyal four-legged companion.
